Art Therapy Services

Defining Art Therapy

Art therapy is the therapeutic use of art making, within a professional relationship with a trained and registered art therapist, for people who experienced various challenges in living and those seeking personal development and well being.

Art therapy is a two-fold process. It involves both the art making process and the art product. Within our therapeutic relationship, I will provide clients with the opportunity to express themselves using a variety of high-quality art supplies in a sacred space that allows for natural lighting and room for creativity to flow. I welcome a diversity of clients facing issues from medical illness to stress from everyday challenges in their lives. Art therapy is NOT about making great art or doing it "right or wrong." It is about taking art making and applying psychotherapeutic concepts to access one's internal and external resources to aid in healing the mind, body, and spirit.

Race, Gender & Intergenerational Trauma Groups

This group was created to provide a safe, structured environment for Black women dealing with trauma-related disorders. Each group is structured around a trauma-focused directive that with help guide participants to personal growth and healing.

It also provides Black women an opportunity to create art in a supportive environment, where relationships and lasting connections can be created as well. Participants will work on both long-term and short-term art projects.

These Groups are for Black women who are:

• Currently working on race-related issues in therapy, such as PTSD, depression and anxiety.
• Willing to engage in the creative process to explore personal issues and build healthier coping tools.
• Interested in joining a community of Black women that is centered on building meaningful social and therapuetic connections.
